Dance is conditioned by un-rest. It is embodied unrest.

ARC16 focuses on dance’s inherent unrest and unrest’s release through dance.

Reaching the proverbial threshold of adolescence, in its 16th iteration, ARC tunes into the current zeitgeist of a Great Unrest while considering the foundational drive of dance: unrest.

Dance gives flesh, shape, flow to unrest. It is an outlet, a shelter, a voice for social unrest. Dances are manifestations of collective unrest. They are movements of what moves us beyond rest.

Dance shapes and channels disquiet, doubt, curiosity, defiance, flight, in ways that cannot be easily challenged as untrue, or dictated. Dance moves, inspires, urges against stagnation, compromise, conformity, in ways that cannot be easily co-opted by ideologies or circumscribed by interests.

Dance includes shared gestures of concern, solidarity, metamorphosis. ARC16 hosts such gestures and invites us to partake of them, to join in the poetics of unrest as they are danced by creatives from Greece and beyond.
