a dance for the end of the world

Diamanto Hadjizacharia
a dance for the end of the world
24.5
Dipylon Theatre
Duration: 20’

The feeling that we are inexorably moving towards the end of the world as we know it, while at the same time being unable to imagine what is taking its place, is a feeling that is both frightening and liberating, as it redefines the very meaning of hope. Dance becomes part of this flow, while at the same time shaping it.

In the words of choreographer Diamanto Hadjizacharia:
It’s the end of the world and I’m dancing in a basement / I walk the streets at dawn / everyone is a friend on a Sunday morning / it’s the end of the world and I can’t wait / I expect nothing / less than everything / it’s the end of the world and I haven’t managed to finish a single book / I am still texting / it’s the end of the world and I’m getting nowhere / safe / or even familiar / it's the end of the world and I still don’t know how to dance / I am free at last / it's the end of the world / and the beginning of our lives.

The work was created in the context of Cyprus Choreography Platform 2023 (premiere: Rialto Theatre, Limassol, 2023). It has also been presented at the Cyprus Choreography Showcase 2024, at
the Open House festival 2024 and at the Lugar Futuro International Festival 2024 in Portugal etc.

All performances of the festival are free.
Pre-booking is required.
